Is there a difference between Box and dropbox?

Box and DropBox are two types of cloud-based data storage and file-sharing services for Business and personal purposes. These services allow users to store their essential data in the cloud and minimize the chances of data loss. The main difference between Box and DropBox is that Box is available only for smartphones (however, the website can be accessed from MS Windows, Linux, and Mac). At the same time, DropBox is available for MS Windows, OS X, and Linux phones.

What is Box?

The Box is an online data storage platform for industries and businesses that provides file sharing, collaboration, and other tools for working with files uploaded to Box. It is up to the user to select the amount of data they wish to share with other users. Users can also invite others to view and edit shared files, upload documents and photos to shared folders, and give other users rights to view shared files.

It mainly offers three types of accounts: Starter @ €9/month/user, Business @ €17/month/user, and Enterprise (company contact). Depending on the package, accounts provide teams of people, storage space, maximum file size upload, document encryption, MS Office 365 integration, custom branding, workflow automation, metadata, user management, advanced security, and users.

What is DropBox?

In September 2008, DropBox Inc. launched its file hosting service under DropBox. It is an online storage service for all types of data storage, like images, documents, videos, and files. You can access your files via DropBox desktop, phones, or from its official website. You can also share all your stuff with your friends and family. Make team projects a breeze through DropBox.

At that time, DropBox offers all its users 2GB of free space. You can also get more space, up to 16GB, through their referral scheme. There is also more space available depending on the price package. It is available for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android, iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, and Kindle Fire.

Is there a difference between Box and dropbox: Key differences

  1. Box provides up to 10 GB of free storage space for personal accounts. DropBox offers only 2 GB of free space. However, it can be increased to 16 GB using the DropBox referral scheme.
  2. Box has three paid plans: Starter @ €9/month/user, Business @ €17/month/user, and Enterprise (contact company). DropBox has two paid plans: DropBox Pro at €9.9/month and DropBox for Business at €15/month/user.
  3. DropBox is cheaper and offers larger space compared to Box.
  4. The box is available only for smartphones, while DropBox is available for MS Windows, OS X, and Linux, as well as smartphones.
  5. The speed of DropBox to access and share data is much better than Box.
  6. The maximum file size of 5 GB is the limit when uploading files to Box. While DropBox has no file size restrictions, you can save the file via desktop or mobile. There is only a 10 GB restriction if you upload your file through the official website.
  7. The box was released in 2005. DropBox was released in 2008.
